Hi folks this is (hopefully) a chance for us all to have a good look at
Mars as it nears opposition....this is a BIG DEAL as its only every couple of years or so that Mars makes a close enough pass to enable us to make out some features on it.So lets make the most of this one.
The plan is to meet at the Inn as normal but then to go to an observation site...probably at 69 The Bridges..Brian,s home.bwh on this forum
Members are Encouraged to bring some equipment along as the more scopes there are set up...the more fun we,ll all have.
So look forward to seeing some new and old faces that i hav,nt seen for a while there.
Brian

Mars Evening 17th Dec (Monday)
=====================
Location: 69 The Bridges, Dalgety Bay which is of the Moray Way South which links the church roundabout and school roundabout in lower dalgety bay.
postcode ky11 9xz - if anyone wants to look at streetmap
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap...map.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
Once you enter "The Bridges" - jus follow to end of road, up a big hill there is view point with parking for 4 cars, then we round to left in cul de sac, with parking for 2-3 more cars.
Will have two scopes:
5 inch refractor, and 8 inch reflector to view from - but more is welcome and any bigger scopes or finer optics will be fun to compare.
drinks and nibble will be provided, hopefully it will be clear, moon bit bright - but not yet full - but will probable be very very cold - so wrap up warm.
regards

bwh, sorry it is my coat and in this weather I could do with it. When would be best for me to come and pick it up.
Thanks for the great hospitality on the night and for everyone's help with my Meade scope It's just a pity the clouds were out.
I'm going to bring along the scope again to the February meeting so will be pestering you all once more.
Cheers. |
