RanksHi Bob,The rank system is mainly a bit of fun, but on large mature forums it allows newcomers to quickly distinguish between veterans and other newcomers. To quote the PhpBB-Design website:
On the KDE forum, for example, people can easily distinguish between dabblers (like me) and gurus. In favour of ranks, you could say that they encourage active forum participation : against, it could be argued that they can be elitist. The Admin. |

Well, the polls have closed, and everyone who expressed a preference either wants the rank system changed or removed. I've kinda gone off it myself. So, bye bye for the time being at least to the ranks.
If there's an outcry, I'll open a new poll to re-enable them. |
