Hi Geoff,

Not an organized outing as such, but if you plan on going at a particular
time, post it on here and maybe some others could go at the same time.

Paul.

Sunday 28th, 11am

Kirsty & I are planning to go on Sunday morning, leaving DB at around 11am.
We have 2 spare seats, if anyone would like to carpool & save petrol.
First come, first served.

ROE open Day

What a great day we had. Saw Paul and kirsty too.

The lectures where a real treat especially the demo on liquid nitrogen. I have to admit the planetarium was alittle uncomfortable for me, had to crawl in on all fours and sit on floor(not an easy task for me I will add  Sad )

There were lots of staff and students on hand to answer all our questions and they were always eager to please. I was shocked to hear that the telescope was last used in 1971 due to light pollution in Edinburgh and the fact that the 36inch reflector is considered to be too small to be of use.
I did offer to take it off their hands but they declined hehehe.
Imagine the neighbours if i put that in the garden.

The library is simply amazing and they had a display of some very rare and old books by Huygens, Newton, Halley and even one by the painter Albrecht Durer who writes about perspective and uses Astronomy to illustrate this. They had an amazing Star Atlas by John Flamstead which had some amazing illustrations and Star Charts.

I took a few piccies and will post them here tomorrow when I get to the shop and process them.

We wore our DBASTRO badges and they aroused a lot of interest with everyone asking what DBAstro was.....and what Dalgety Bay was hehehe

Lots to see and do and they did say they hold nights for clubs and organisations so maybe a thought for the future???

regards
Cosmic
