28 nov - 15:48 can just find venus and jupiter but still very faint.  2 fingers appart.

Should get better viewing in next hour or two as gets darker , before they set at 18:00. so just 2 hours viewing.

update 16:25 and now dalgety bay still crystal clear skies, rainbow night sky (oranges thru greens to purples) from sun glow.

VENUS and Jupiter now visible to naked eye, 2 fingers (2 degrees) appart and spectacular - will make great picutre over the bridges in next hour.

Hi all, Friday 28th at 5.30 pm set up scope in my daughters bedroom and opened the window to a great view of both Jupiter and Venus.  Used a 26 mm and a 7.5 mm eyepiece and saw Jupiter with 4 moons all in a row (two at one side and two at the other) and Venus a bit further down.

Tried to take some photographs using a digital camera down the eyepiece and the eye piece holder but flash caused problems.

All in all successful viewing, and, I managed to keep warm at the same time.

Cheers.

Well done!
Did you see a phase of venus? I would be interested as I too looked out my daughters bedroom window with ETX 70 perched on sill. I used x2 barlow and 26mm and saw crescent phase last week.

regards
Geoff

Hi Geoff, didn't see a crescent phase - also tried the 2 x barlow with the 26mm but Venus was a little bit blurred.

Still I've got the power tank, lead and now have the compass/leveller that fits the eyepiece (Xmas present) so hopefully more exciting sightings to come.

Hi guys -

conditions down here were great for the occultation and I managed to bag some reasonable images.

Tried to post one but it wouldn't work, so if anyone wants to see, send me a pm with an e-mail address and I'll send them to you.

Cheers.
Emma

I only found out about this at about 18:30 and there was too much cloud to see by then, but I did see it driving home the next night.

Here's a couple of the shots I took. Any post capture processing tips would be gratefully received.

As the light was fading....

And having been close to tripping-over "clanny" as he lined-up his gear while I walked across the kick-about pitch with my binos glued to my eyes while viewing the same scene, I can vouch that these pics were successfully taken despite the immediate proximity of two street lights and the acute glare from Paul's detested "stade de futball" lights a mere 50 yards away! :^)
