apologies, but I won't be able to attend the coming meeting. I will be in Greece until May 25th.
Sad to miss Brian's workshop, maybe I will be able to observe the sun myself [chuckle]

Hi Bob, George and all who missed the meeting,
You missed a great night. A superb talk on the equipment needed for Solar Observing as well as hands on experience (can't wait to see the Sun in HA). I'm sure it was very well recieved by all, then, a great presentation on introduction to Astronomy by Paul Holmes. This was the presentation he recently gave to the Rangers in Dunfermline and what a corker it was too! My daughter melisa said after we got home it was one of the best nights she'd had so she obvoiously enjoyed it. To me this is what makes our gatherings so great. We attract all age groups and we all all mix so well.
I gave an update on the Solar Day at Dunfermline High. Despite several attempts to get a definitive answer it seems ther is a certain reluctance on the part of the Rector and teachers to appreciate what a great opportunity this is for their school and their pupils. 2009 is designated the International Year of Astronomy and as such I would have thought they would be only too grateful that we are willing to offer up our time to go there and give a Solar Day for not only their Pupils but also St Leonards P.S. too.
Oh well we live in hope.
Gala Day looms and I personally am very excited about this one! It would be nice if ALL MEMBERS can get behind this and attend. It's a great opportunity to get the Club out there to the pulic. so come on down as they say and support us.
Anyway waffled on enough There are no meetings at the Kabin for July and August, the next one is Tuseday September 15th but please check here for news of visits to the Dark Site this summer. Also I would like to gauge members interst on a day trip to Stirling to see this rooftop observatory on the Hotel that Brian talked about. If anyone is interested please post here and we can arrange transport and get the Hotel to lay on a tour for us. Maybe we could have a Bar Lunch at the Hotel.
that's all for now

Thanks for the feeedback Geoff and im glad your daughter enjoyed it
so much.Re the school event.i can understand their reluctance to an extent as they will not understand what solar observation entails
and may consider it dangerous, over in the states these Solar outreach events are common with one guy i know having reached about 5000 kids last year and is expecting to reach another 10K children this year,so we are a bit behind on these figures
Oh well im without an HA filter at the moment anyway (working on Solarscope one) so had to sell mine...won,t be a problem as i can borrow 1 or 2 from Andy.
Brian
